Charles Edward Douglas, drying his socks by a fire, with his blanket and pipe, at the bivouac up Craigs Creek, circa 1894. Photograph taken by Arthur Paul Harper.
This photograph was published in the book `Mr Explorer Douglas' edited by John Pascoe, 1957, opposite page 77, with the caption `A rock shelter in the rain'. "The bivouac up Craigs creek would do for a Witch scene with one of the hags at the mouth of the cave..." - from a letter Douglas to Harper, 1894. Crouching under a blanket, Douglas dries wet socks by a scrub fire.'
