Photograph of a group of men, women and children at Papawai Pa. Some of the women are wearing traditional Maori clothing (piupiu) over their European clothes, and are carrying poi. In the foreground a woman paints the face of another. Standing at right background is Patrick Coffey, a market gardener from Taranaki. Photograph taken by Frederick William Vosseler, probably during a hui held at Papawai 20-25 May 1898, that was attended by the Governor and Prime Minister.
