Shirley and Alan Martin inside the ambulance named after them, with Wellington Free Ambulance officer David Long. Photographs taken circa 7 December 1987 by Evening Post staff photographer John Nicholson.

The ambulance was presented to the Wellington free Ambulance by the Wellington Free Ambulance Ladies' Auxillary. The Auxillary wished to name the ambulance after the couple to commemorate Mrs Martin's 10 years as president, and the support and generosity of her husband, executive chairman of L V Martin and Son.
