View looking out to sea and north along the Taranaki coastline, with the Grey Institute, (several buildings clustered together on top of a hillock) and surrounding cultivated land and fences. A man leads a horse and cart in the foreground.
The Grey Institute (named after Sir George Grey) was a Wesleyan mission school and boys' boarding house at Ngamotu, close to Paritutu and the Sugar Loaf islands, west of New Plymouth city.
