Shows full-length portrait of Sir George Grey, sometime Governor of New Zealand, standing with his left hand resting on papers at his desk at right, and with a pamphlet rolled in his right hand. He wears a high collar and cravat, cark jacket, lighter waistcoat. Two books stand resting against the side of the table, and there is a wooden seat at the left.
