Plan of the poop deck for the ship John McVicar, with cabin number one marked as being for Walter and Alexandrina Turnbull.
Reproduced in McCormick, E. H. 'Alexander Turnbull: his life, his circle, his collections' (Wellington, 1974)l. No source given for the image; however the original appears to be held in the Manuscripts and Archives collection, MS-2175, Journal of a voyage from London to New Zealand in the good ship John MacVicar, Jul-Nov 1857.
Walter and Alexa Turnbull came out to New Zealand in this ship in 1857.
Inscriptions: Recto - top left - Mr Turnbull [in pencil, written across cabin number 1]. Additional printed title information (after the ship's name) reads: A1 for 12 years. John Smith Commander.
