Binding: publisher's binding of terracotta pebble-grain cloth over bevelled boards, stamped in black and gold, with 4 royal blue glazed paper quatrefoil onlays, 4 white paper onlays, 4 blue, green, and red-printed paper cruciform arm onlays, and 1 central lobed medallion paper onlay chromolithographed in green, red, blue, black, and gold on upper cover; lower cover repeats the gilt stamping from the upper cover but in blind, and includes the gold stamp of the General Assembly Library New Zealand; text edges gilt (ATL copy lacks tan-coated endpapers); binding designed by William Audsley and George Audsley (cf. Morris and Levin, The art of publishers' bookbindings 1815-1915, p.80).
