Description: Accounts of life in Wellington, Manawatu, Gisborne and Taranaki, and many political recollections and comments. There is a chapter on old-time racing, including the days before the book-maker was banned. There are also references to visiting celebrities, among them Mark Twain, Frank Bullen and Paderewski, and memories of many theatrical shows. Included is a summary of the career of the late Henry Hayward, a pioneer in cinema entertainment in NZ. Source of title - Transcribed He was a store-keeper, law clerk and land agent; member of Parliament for Hawera for six years; mayor of Hawera for thirteen years and member of other local bodies in Taranaki. He was a noted runner; played Rugby football for these provinces; and as owner and spectator was keenly interested in horse-riding. He was one of the founders of a number of clubs and societies, including the Philatelic Society and the Polynesian Society. Description: A cadastral map of rural and suburban sections open for sale and selection of the area from Lake Horowhenua to Koputuroa Road, and bounded by the Kawiu and Makomako Roads. This cadastral map has numbered sections, some coloured, and include acreages and owners' names handwritten in some sections. The Wellington - Manawatu Railway is marked as are a school and a waterworks reserve. Streets and the Koputuroa Stream are named. The base maps are of sections in the Blocks I, II & VI, Waiopehu Survey District. Sections marked with red are large settlements open for sale or selection and are referred to in a key. Schedule of the suburban sections and rural lands in this district include the section number, acreage, value and rent. Terms and conditions of sale or selection of the Levin village settlement include the statement 'Drawn by F.J. Hales'. Description: Photograph album created by Neville H Mosen of Raetithi. Contains views related to trips taken by the Tongariro Tramping Club and views related to the Mosen family and friends. Taken by Neville Mosen circa 1936 to 1937, and possibly some taken by other unidentified photographer(s). Contains scenic views and views of the Club members on bush walks and skiing in Tongariro National Park, featuring Ruapehu, Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and surrounding environs, the Pinnacles at Blue Bluffs, Ruapehu crater lake, Tama Lakes, The Chateau, Whakapapa glacier, Karioi Lakes, Mangawhero River and various tramping huts. Bruce Davis, an amateur photographer who lived in Raetihi is identified. Also includes views of Raetihi township and Horopito locality, Napier, Tauranga (rail bridge and The Strand), and Ngauruhoe erupting (possibly 1937 eruption). Also includes views of Tom Parker posing with the fountain he gifted to Napier in 1936 and scenes of a parade and bonfire in Raetihi to mark the coronation of King George VI in 1937.
