Description: Based on a published cadastral map with parishes of the Bay of Islands, hand-drawings show constructed roads which require maintenance or widening to avoid undue delays in delivery of goods when sea conditions are rough. Routes are marked as A to C - Okaihau to Waimate; A to D - Okaihau to Kerkeri; A to E - Okaihau to Haruru Falls; A to F - Okaihau to Kawakawa. Okaihau, Russell and Kawakawa are underlined in red and Ohaeawai, Waimate, Black Bridge and Opua are handwritten in red ink. An accompanying letter requests that this work be considered, includes estimates, and gives information about the colour coding of the roads. No reference key is given. Title supplied by cataloguer. Map and accompanying letter from the Dept. of Lands and Survey to the Waste Lands Committee, House of Representatives, both have 'Special Collections' inscribed in pencil. Quantity: 1 map(s). Description: Drawn on a base map of the Waipawa Borough, the annotations depict properties with block number, acreage, Crown grant reference numbers and names of purchasers. The properties vary in size from 10 to 30 acres, and are made up of several streets of suburban sized sections. The names are Robert Mixer Skeet, James Fougere, Thomas Dawson Triphook and Edward George Wright, Louis Noel Du Noyer, William Fannin, Frederick Sedgwick Abbott, Christopher Lockyer, Thomas Gill, Allan MacMaster, Algernon Gray Tollemache. See accompanying one page note entitled 'Schedule of persons who purchased from the Crown the lands comprised in the township of Waipawa'. Patangata Crown Grant District.' Lists block number, purchaser, purchase date, Crown Grant reference, and includes annotated note regarding donor and annotated corrections. Description: Copy of a hand-drawn map of two adjointing sections of farm land adjacent to the Harataunga Harbour, now known as Kennedy Bay, and bordered by the Whareroa and Ohinau Streams, Puketutu and Kaotara Hills and Rangitahi. One section has the names of Nathan Kennedy & Brothers, while the second has McGregor & Atkinson's names, together with acreages. The McGregor & Atkinson property includes the location of a sawmill and wharf, buildings are indicated and one is named 'Mr. Atkinson's'. A handwritten note on the original, written within this section states 'Grant to J. Cruikshank, Nov. 26th., 1867. 12.15a Sol 155'. Within the section of Nathan Kennedy & brothers, the note states 'Grant to Mr. J. Kennedy, Nov 26th, 1867. 12.15a Sol 155'. Includes references to Native land and Mr. D. Lowe's land. On the opposite side of the harbour, a settlement is marked and the site of a Maori church. A handwritten note on the top left states: 'The copy of a map deposited in this office. ... Description: A cadastral lithograph map of the Auckland Land District has been used to focus on Māori settlements in the immediate area around the Kawhia and Aotea Harbours which is outlined in blue pencil and is numbered Map No. 4. All settlement names are written in Māori and the more recent names have been crossed out including names of Mission Stations. Handwritten names are Makomako, Owhakarito, Horoure, Motungaio, Pouwewe, Ahure, Ngatoka-Kairere Isle, Hikupoarea [Pa], Titirimatangi Pt., Te Arawi, Te Kawau, Whenuapao, Taharoa Lake. The battle site of Te Kakara is marked. One road is labelled 'Modern road' and some parish boundaries and streams have 'x' handwritten at regular intervals along their length. A key to these places, handwritten in pencil on the left side of the outline, include references, e.g. 'p.8', which are possibly page numbers, but without any explanation.
