Three people have contributed to the forward of this book - each obviously very happy to be associated with its publication. They include The Honourable Dame Silvia Cartwright who at the time it was first published in 2009 was The Governor General of New Zealand, and Haami Piripi the Chief Executive Officer of the Māori Language Commission. Their support of Hoani Niwa's initiative to provide this guide speaks for itself.

The book combined with its CD Rom has achieved its goal of being easy to follow and is a practical guide in every sense. It works through the text with logical, thoughtful examples that explain the pronunciation of words very well. The accompanying voices on the CD are unhurried and clear.

Towards the close of the book pages are devoted to the pronunciation of: Personal Names; At the marae; Iwi; Colours and Place names.

Hoani Niwa has refined the process perfectly. I would recommend the title for use in classrooms as well as for the home.
