Arrangement: Mr Williams' slides are filed in three sections. The first section has a consecutive sequence of numbered slides covering his trip including the sea voyage. These are filed in sheets numbered PA12-8774 to PA12-8806. The next two sections are as follows: The New Zealand Lecture (PA12-8807 to PA12-8814), and The Australian Lecture (PA12-8815 to PA12-8823) in which Mr Williams chose representative slides from his original sequence for various lectures.

Description: Transparency slides of New Zealand selected by Mr Williams as a representative collection to be used in a series of lectures on his return to England. This sheet starts with a series of maps, a world political map, map of the sea floor showing the relationship of New Zealand with the various undersea mountain ridges etc., New Zealand physical, rainfall, and geological maps. Views of Cape Maria van Diemen and Rangitoto nearing New Zealand on board ship. Auckland Harbour from the air; Auckland from Devonport; Ninety-Mile Beach; country near Waipoua Forest, the road into the forest, and Tane Mahuta, on the way to Kaipara; Kaihu River and coastal country between Trounson's Forest and Waihue; and Omamari beach and stream. The last five views show aspects of Holmridge farm owned by Mr Williams' friends Ruth and Vernon Woods. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides was probably taken earlier than those on some of the preceding sheets (information from his diary). This sheet contains images of Wellington, including Wellington Airport; views from Mount Victoria; around the Wellington coast including shore with marram grass and black-backed gulls; the Petone Settlers' Memorial; Marine Parade around Miramar, with the Monowai sailing through Wellington Heads; buildings in the city including Parliament Buildings, Government Buildings, Wakefield House at 90 The Terrace, used by the Founders Club; and an old two-storeyed wooden house on the Terrace; the Corinthic loading various goods at Wellington Wharves; Lambton Quay; Cable Car terminal and views of Wellington; and the Carter Observatory. Slides on this sheet are numbered 505-528, with a gap for no. 506. Arrangement: Image no. 506 (showing the view from Mount Victoria in Wellington) was taken as part of Williams' representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. Description: Transparency slides of New Zealand selected by Mr Williams as a representative collection to be used in a series of lectures on his return to England. This group includes both slides Mr Williams took himself, and slides he purchased. The last slide showing the Lindis Pass was taken by Neville Hatwell. This sheet shows parts of Christchurch including the Cathedral, Cathedral Square, the Avon River and the statue of Robert Falcon Scott; the Rakaia River; a signpost on the road to Mount Cook; Lake Pukaki; Mount Sefton from the road; the Hermitage hotel; views of Mount Cook from the Hermitage; a group of people looking up the glaciers in the Tasman valley; a mountain daisy and a Mount Cook lily; and the Lindis Pass. The slides are not in his original numerical sequence, and are selected by subject relating to particular talks. Description: Transparency slides of New Zealand selected by Mr Williams as a representative collection to be used in a series of lectures on his return to England. This group includes both slides Mr Williams took himself, and slides he purchased. Several of these were taken by Neville Hatwell. This sheet shows Queenstown Lakes District, and Milford. Views include Queenstown; the Remarkables in the evening with the launch 'Moana' moored at a pier on Lake Wakatipu in the foreground; Lake Manapouri; Te Anau township; the Eglinton Valley and Hollyford Valley, both taken by Neville Hatwell; portal of the Homer Tunnel, and views the other side en route to Milford Sound, including Mount Tutoko and the Cleddau River; the Milford Track; views of the Sound, Sutherland Falls, Lake Ada, Sandfly Point and Sinbad Gully; and the Milford Sound airstrip with a small plane on the runway. The slides are not filed in his original numerical sequence, and are selected by subject relating to particular talks. This sheet shows views of Kings Park and Botanical Gardens and the War Memorial in Perth, a street scene and view from the waterfront; evening sky over Fremantle; an albatross; scenes in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens showing stringybark gum, a white wisteria, a Judas tree and an unidentified girl holding a koala bear; junior sports at Scotch College in Melbourne; and a view from the Dandenong Mountains to the Great Dividing Range. Views of Sydney including arrival off the Heads in the early morning, passing under Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney waterfront and a tugboat, and the bridge from various angles in Sydney. The slides are not filed in his original numerical sequence, and are selected by subject relating to particular talks. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand between 1958 and 1959, and his return voyage to England aboard the Corinthic. This sheet of slides has two sections. The first 6 images relate to his voyage home with views of Fort Nassau and Willemstad in Curacao, and distant views of the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. The second section shows purchased slides of New Zealand. These include some from a set of Maori images and New Zealand plants produced by "Kiwi Colour Slides" and one of pohutukawa flowers taken by N. Hatwell. Subjects listed above. Slides on this sheet are numbered 699-722 with gaps for nos. 705, 707-709 which were removed for lectures on New Zealand when he returned home to England. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 705, 707-709), purchased slides showing a Maori poi dance, plaiting flax, Maori cloaks and a Maori carver for his representative collection on New Zealand used in a lecture series when he returned to England. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides was probably taken earlier than those on some of the preceding sheets (information from his diary). This sheet contains images taken between Lower Hutt, Masterton and Castle Point in the Wairarapa. Included are interior and exterior views of St James' Anglican Church in Lower Hutt; a view of the pass over the Rimutakas; St Matthew's Church and several street scenes in Masterton; Jessie Cooper's home; the open air Masterton Swimming Pool; views of the Wairarapa Plains with a sheep station; the Ruamahanga River; Mt Holdsworth Reserve looking up to the Tararua Range; views of Castle Point, including one of shells embedded in rock, the NZ native ice plant "disphyma australe"; and a woman selling fruit and vegetables at a roadside stall on the Carterton Road. Slides on this sheet are numbered 529-532, with gaps for 531, 534, 539-540 and 553. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 531, 534, 539-540, 553). These showed the Rimutaka Pass, a Masterton street scene, the Wairarapa Plains with the Ruamahunga River and sheep, and Cabbage Tree Grove on Palliser Road, which he took as part of his representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand between 1958 and 1959. This sheet of slides shows hills at Holmridge farm; volcanic ridge at Tokatoka; sawmill and the Tokatoka volcanic rock in the distance; Dargaville township, April 26 Anzac Day procession with band rotunda visible, an old pier on the Wairoa River at Dargaville, cattle sales; a pile of wood blocks at a sawmill; Woodhill showing Peter Hildreth's farm country; sheep on the road beyond Helensville; Kaipara River at Helensville; scenes relating to the flax industry at Waihue showing cabbage trees in a swamp, views of the Northern Wairoa Flax Co. mill showing the buildings, flax in swampland, the flax mill, washed flax fibres, and the manager of the mill holding flax fibres. Slides on this sheet are numbered 604-627. Arrangement: None of this particular sheet of slides were removed to Mr Williams' representative collection on New Zealand for his lecture series when he returned to England. Description: Transparency slides of Australia selected by Mr Williams as a representative collection to be used in a series of lectures on his return to England. This sheet shows views taken on a trip between Canberra and the Jenolan Caves. Views include a distant view of the Mount Stromlo Observatory en route to Canberra; the Australian War Memorial at Canberra; Stanwell Park and Sublime Point; the road to Windsor; Kurrajong Heights. A number of views were taken in the Blue Mountains National Park area including Grose Vale (or Valley) including Govetts Leap and Pulpit Rock; the Three Sisters; Mount York; the Megalong Valley with Narrow Neck Plateau; and finally views of the Jenolan Cave entrance, the Jenolan Valley, the Carlotta Arch, and the Jenolan Caves Hotel. The slides are not filed in his original numerical sequence, and are selected by subject relating to particular talks. Most of these slides were taken by Mr Williams but the sheet also includes some he purchased at the time.
