Album opens with soldiers gathering in Auckland from August to October, 1914, prior to leaving for Egypt. They leave Auckland in October on the troop transport ship "Star of Africa", The photographs of Egypt are largly to do with army life, eg kit inspection, trips to the pyramids, general views of camp life, and photographs of friends. Hutchison and his mates were members of a medical corps.
The rest of the album covers the Gallipoli Campaign including the evacuation in December 1915 and the return to Egypt in 1916
