Kia Kingi practising flax plaiting beneath the damaged statue of John Ballance in Moutoa Gardens, Wanganui, photographed on 18 March 1995, by Evening Post staff photographer Phil Reid.
From 28 February until 18 May 1995, Moutoa Gardens were occupied by members of Whanganui iwi in protest at land seizures. During the occupation the area was renamed Pakaitore, the original Maori name for the site.
