Description

Interviewees were members of the New Zealand Army stationed in New Zealand during World War II. The perception is that New Zealand was defended by the Home Guard and the United States Marines. However over 60,000 of the approximately 90,000 troops mobilised in mid 1942 did not serve overseas. Their presence in New Zealand has largely been ignored in histories of the war. These interviews attempt to redress this oversight.
