Some cartoons are specific to the Wellington region; there is reference to a cannon test and the Wellington Baker's Association (president H.E. Fariey). International issues are adressed. This includes an Indonesian police coup and the continuing problems that Britain faced in the aftermath of World War II. There is also an advertisement for the National Savings Bank. Quantity: 13.

Describes a move to working on radar under Ernie Marsden during World War II followed by a period in the Army working out range tables for guns. Notes his return to the DSIR in 1946 when he established the Biometrics Section, which later became the Applied Mathematics Division. Looks at the DSIR structures, jobs, culture and policies. Describes his attitude to management, dress, social conventions, budgets and the public expenditure committee.
