Description: Comprises an album of postcards created by Lieutenant Stephen Joseph McDonnell who served in the New Zealand Armed Forces in 1917-1918. The album dates from 1920, with postcards collected from various locations while he was serving abroad during World War One, including: Jamaica, France, Belgium, Cologne, Bensberg, Limerick, the Giant's Causeway in Ireland, and Glasgow. Written in English and French, the album contains both black and white and colourised postcards. Also includes a typescript from 1998, and two photocopied pages from 1999 by Hilda McDonnell, Stephen McDonnell's daughter, which provides: - A numbered list of the postcards in the album, including postcard titles and locations of interest. - A photocopy of a postcard from the album from the 'Hotel-Restaurant "Kolner Hof" Bensberg bei Koln' in Germany. - A photocopy of a letter written by Hilda McDonnell to Linda M Graham, relating to the connection between her grandfather's diary, and the postcard from Bensberg.
