Anthropologist. After being appointed Professor in Zoology at the Royal College of Science in Dublin, Haddon visited Torres Straits in 1889 and became interested in recording local custom. Taking up anthropology at Cambridge, in 1898 he organized the Cambridge University Expedition to Torres Strait and New Guinea.
