Also included are scenic views; scenes of mustering and shearing on the farm; Ernie and others in First World War uniforms; a burned down house; soldiers at Trentham camp eating a meal outside their tent (as a postcard signed by George McDermott to his brother and sister Alice and Bill); Lorraine Barnes taking part in a recording of the radio show The Quiz Kids as a member of the Hutt Valley team (The Quiz Kids was introduced by Selwyn Toogood in the 1950s); results of a national election being monitored on a wall chart ca 1930s; Ernie Barnes as captain of the Wellington Telephone Exchange Cricket Club; and two of officers and soldiers from the Second World War. Description: View from a garden above Helen Street Brooklyn looking north-east across Mount Cook and Te Aro towards Mount Victoria. Part of the lower stretch of Helen Street can be seen and its junction with Tanera Crescent. The Fitchett house is centre left, and beyond it is a plantation of pines above the corner of Brooklyn and Ohiro Road (which at this point can't be seen). The fresh cuttings and the track of the new Brooklyn Road can be seen in the middle distance (which may mean that this photograph is nearer ca 1908 than 1910). On the left of Brooklyn Road is a small section of Central Park, and beyond it is Nairn Street Park. Photograph taken ca 1910 by Francis E Tomlinson. Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s). Description: Scenic photographs of Cass & Craigieburn, Midland Railway, Waimakariri Gorge taken between circa 1860s and 1940s by various unidentified and identified photographers. Photograph (no. 13) shows the hut owned by the Canterbury Coleege Mountain Biological Station; photograph (no. 25) of the old Benmore Station (no. 25) was taken by D L Lundy circa 1860s, and view (no. 26) shows the same site much later with fully grown macrocarpa trees, and the house in poorer condition; the views of the Midland Railway Line including when under construction, with the line, tunnels, and viaducts seen over a number of years were possibly taken by William Williams who was a photographer and who worked for the Railways Department; other images were probably taken by Charles Beken including one of "the meeting of the Arthur's Pass tunnel headings" with two men and a woman beside the dark opening.
