Description: Shows Jim Anderton knocking John Kirk backwards out of his seat (labelled 'Sydenham') by pressing a button on the side of the chair. David Lange looks on in bewilderment. Refers to July 1983, when John Kirk announced that he would not seek the Labour Party's nomination for Sydenham in the 1984 election. In his place Labour selected Jim Anderton, the party president, whereupon Kirk (a strong David Lange supporter) declared that he would stand against the official Labour candidate as an independent. Anderton's passenger, David Lange, is thrown from the car as it hits the 'judder bars' of MacDonell and Kirk. Refers to Labour's determination to win the next election. Description: It is Guy Fawkes and two children are comparing the amount of money they have collected for their Guy Fawkes effigies which are both in wheelbarrows beside them. Propped against a shop wall behind them are two posters reading 'Cup upset! Lottery upset!' and Govt. veto causes N.Z.L.T.A. to cancel tourney.' One of the children gloats over his collection tin which is overflowing with money and says that he just stood outside the tennis club. The reason for his success is that his Guy Fawkes bears a strong likeness to Prime Minister, Norman Kirk whose government veto has just caused the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to cancel its tournament.
