Description: Comprises correspondence between Thomas King and Mary Chilman (later King), and between King and various family members and friends; King's business correspondence, especially relating to coastal shipping; papers relating to King's election to the House of Representatives (1853-1855, 1860) and to the Taranaki Provincial Council (1856, 1857-1861); a few relating to his career as manager of the Bank of New Zealand in New Plymouth (1861-1876); and a considerable amount relating to his position as chairman of the New Plymouth Harbour Board (1876-ca1889). Other papers include correspondence from Mary King to her husband, clippings and correspondence relating to Truby and Newton King, sons of Thomas and Mary King, various papers relating to Taranaki incidents including petitions, list of electors (1852) and other papers. Original owner was Adam King who acquired 300 acres at Stony Creek, Clutha District in 1900 and named his property Mafeking. In 2005 the property was owned by Steven and Evelyn King. Patricia Diana C Frykberg - Captain William Bendall; his life, his family and his times

Description: Additional material included with the essay includes Captain Bendall's shipboard diary kept on board `City of New York', `Zealandia', 1876; letter from William Edward Bendall re stranding of the `Ellerton', 1883; list of vessels Captain Bendall is known to have been master of; family trees Captain Bendall and his wife Mary, nee Taylor, arrived in Dunedin from Launceston, Tasmania on the `Three Sisters' in 1862. From that date until 1878 he was master of several coastal traders and New Zealand pilot for Pacific steamers. He was appointed Marine Surveyor and Lloyds representative in Wellington and salvaged several wrecked or stranded vessels. The couple had nine children. Description: Reminiscences by Hunt of her father's life; Fleck was born in England, and came out to New Zealand in 1912. He served in the army occupation force in Samoa in 1915 until 1919 and married Florence, daughter of Arthur and Suisana King in the 1920s, moving to Palmerston North.
