Description: Comprises letter to Helen Beaglehole from Neil Hudson relating to harbour navigational aids, particularly with regard to Bean Rocks Lighthouse and other beacons in Waitemata Harbour. Mr Hudson describes the maintenance work done while he was master of the floating crane `Hikinui' in the 1980s. Also relates earlier events (ca 1950s) when he was working on the government steamer `Maitai' and the Union Company's vessel `Kawaroa', both of which serviced lighthouses, at Cuvier Island and Taranga Island Includes covering letter from Helen Beaglehole.. Description: Photographic prints of Jackson Bay, New Zealand, taken by John Meikle and Markham Carthew Lysons, mostly undated, but featuring some documented events dated in the year 1939. Some prints stamped verso "Printed by Douglas Cox Ltd. Christchurch". Comprises three groups, a series of 27 large half-plate photographic prints, and two groups of small prints, one loose and the other mounted on 22 pages with captions. - Photographs documenting the construction of Jackson Bay wharf and scenery in the surrounding areas, including alpine views and a portrait of a penguin. - Photographs portraying the camp township at Jackson Bay, Lake Ellery, the YMCA Recreation Hall at Jackson Bay, post office, aircraft on the beach, construction of highway, "Sports at Okuru", and various vessels including 'Gael', 'Waihao' lighthouse steamer 'Matai', the Arawata River bridge under construction, Smoothwater River and Waiatoto River, also erection of masts at Air Radio Station. Also portrays staff working at Nolan Bros whitebait processing factory. - Photographs of ships, barges, and wharf construction at Jackson Bay, and scenic landscapes. Named individuals portrayed include "Mr & Mrs E J McEachen", Mrs McEachen is noted for editing 'The Jacksons Bay Chronicle', and the resident engineer in charge of public works at Jackson Bay "Mr J B Jackson", with another captioned "Mrs Jackson enjoying afternoon tea in the pretty garden of flowers and bush surrounding her home".
