Royal New Zealand Ballet

The New Zealand Ballet Company was founded by Poul Rudolph Gnatt in 1953. Gnatt was the first Artistic Director of the Ballet from 1953 to 1962. The Company received a charter from the Queen in 1984 and became the Royal New Zealand Ballet. In 1998 the company moved into its own premises adjacent to the St James Theatre in Wellington
