Team One Design :22 resources kit. Team One Design, Wellington New Zealand [Calendar. 1...

Date: 1980

By: Team One Design (Firm)

Reference: Eph-D-BUILDINGS-Wellington-1980-01

Description: Silver poster shows an illustration of the facade of the house standing at 22 The Terrace, on the corner of the Terrace and Bolton Street. The yellow wheel, with calendar dates on the circumference, turns to reveal various family pictures inhabiting the cut-out windows of the house, and names of family members around the wheel circumference. These families represent six of the eight families who lived in the house. Featured families are: Caterwood (Rupert, Mary, Margaret, Lucy), Boor (Leonard, Emily), Kemp (with Sarah and John Greenwood), Anson (Caroline, George, Emily and Herbert Greenstreet), Henry (Mildred, Irene, Eudora), Nicolaus (Edward). In 1980, an unsuccessful campaign was run to save this house from demolition, one idea being that Ian Athfield would design a residential complex built around the house. At the time the house was being used by the Christian Science Sunday School. See article in the Dominion, 18 November 1980, showing Wellington mayor Michael Fowler and architect Alastair Scott-Mitchell holding a copy of this poster/calendar. The house was built in 1866 and first occupied by Dr Leonard Boor, then by Dr Kemp, followed by Dr Anson. It may have been designed by Christian Toxward, or under his influence (See \"In praise of older buildings\", by David McGill & Grant Tilley. Auckland Methuen 1980, pages 58-59). Quantity: 1 b&w photo-mechanical print(s) on poster.. Physical Description: Offset print on light card, 777 x 413 mm., with circular turning inset of diameter 503 mm. Provenance: Acquired in November 1980.
