Isaac Clark and Son was established as a building firm in 1885 in Wingfield Street, Thorndon (which used to run between where the State Services Commission and the National Library of New Zealand are now); they then moved to a site at 87 The Terrace near the present Lambton Square Arcade, opposite Aurora Terrace, then to the corner of Willis and Aro Streets where Lychgate is now. As they already had a good joinery business and were making caskets for other funeral directors, they decided to expand into that business in 1900. Description: Colour slide photographs taken by John Reinder Fijn of the Catholic tangihanga (funeral) of an unidentified person at Jerusalem, circa 1950s to 1960s. Includes images of a Maori family mourning around a coffin in a tent, the arrival of the Catholic priest and altar boys, the pall bearers removing the coffin from the tent, the funeral procession walking through long grass to the graveyard, a woman and baby at the graveside, and a gravestone. Refers to research into cancer cures. Infant looks suspiciously at mother's nipple and opts for the scrambled egg if there's any chance of the milk having been genetically modified or irradiated. NZ and Australian Ministers of Health have declared war on depression. A drepressed man says over the breakfast table, when politicians start slashing their wrist in large numbers, then he'll cheer up. Over a beer two men discuss All Black coach, John Hart's performance. Police warn the public of an IBM fugitive. Refers to the IBM scoop of public money for a Police computer main-frame that never eventuated. Politicians avoid the responsibility of the INCIS Police computer fiasco.
