Description: Photograph taken by Frederick James Halse, shows bush-covered gully and large wooden houses, including one with a turret which was built for Sir James Prendergast, Chief Justice of New Zealand. Source of further descriptive information - location identified as Kinross Street by library client, previously guessed to be Bolton Street. The house on the left with a turret was built for Sir James Prendergast, (he moved to wellington in 1867) Chief Justice of New Zealand, he died on 27 Feb. 1921. The estate was subdivided and then at a later date, from about 1924 to 1938, it was owned by Charles Edward Stuart and Clara Clabburn. It was demolished about 1939. Charles imported Paisley silk shawls made in Norwich by his family there. The house is in Kinross Street off Bolton Street. It would have been at 4 to 8 Kinross Street today.
