Description: Three men in discussion, two seated on parts of barrels, the third holding a large sheet of paper headed Graham's Town Journal 5th January 1837 and referring to untrustworthy 'Kaffirs'. One barrel is labelled Truman Hanbury Buxton, its lid 'Tale of a tub'. The man seated on top may be Thomas Fowell Buxton, a social reformer and abolitionist. Andries Stockenstrom is seated on the lid of the barrel. The discussion may be to do with slavery and civil rights Truman, Hanbury, Buxton & Co was a London firm of brewers.
