In all fifteen islands were visited, eight of them being within the extended boundaries of New Zealand, and the remaining seven belonging to one or other of the adjacent groups - viz., Samoa, Tonga or Friendly Islands, and Fiji. Description: Album includes a large section of British naval ships, some travelling in convoy, some camouflaged, with closeup views of armaments and naval personnel, taken by unidentified photographers during World War I. It appears that the creator of the album was serving on the SS Parattah. A section in the album covers a port-of-call by the Parattah to Nauru and the Loyalty Islands, showing scenes and aspects of life on the islands, including several related to the phosphate industry on Nauru. There are a number of images of a group on camels near the Spinx and pyramids in Egypt, dated 1919, followed by a section on the Yosemite area, California, with scenic views of mountains and valleys, and several showing the "largest tree in the world". The last section in the album covers the royal tour of HRH The Prince of Wales in 1920, in Sydney. Description: Photographs relating to the career of Captain Alexander Mitford Edwin in the Mediterranean and East Africa during World War I and as a shipmaster for the Union Steam Ship Co. During the war Captain Edwin commanded the Wahine, the hospital ship Marama, and the Willochra. Joseph George Ward is one member of his party which makes the date more likely to be ca 1919 as Ward left Massey's coalition after that date.
