Description: Drafts of biography `Ernst Dieffenbach: rebel and humanist'. Also correspondence with research institutes and publishers and copies of correspondence and other writings by Dieffebach. Ernest Dieffenbach (1811-1855), in NZ from 1839-1840, was engaged by the New Zealand Company as a surgeon and naturalist. He explored around Waikato and Taupo, visited the Chatham Islands and was the first man to climb Mt Egmont.
