Description: Sermon by Rev Thomas Burns tipped in to the front cover of the book `A Great coloniser: the Rev Dr Thomas Burns, pioneer minister of Otago and nephew of the poet' by Ernest Northcroft Merrington [Dunedin: Otago Daily Times, 1929]. Cover page of the sermon reads `Sermon preached by the Rev Thos. Burns D.D. in the old church on the beach... Original manuscript in his own writing'. The book itself contains pencil annotations in an unknown hand. Bibliography at back of Merrington's book, and other internal evidence, indicate the ms has a connection with Otago Early Settlers Library. Other Titles - A Great coloniser: the Rev Dr Thomas Burns Burns was the first Presbyterian minister in Otago, arriving from Scotland in 1848.
