New Zealand academic, author, poet and critic. Known as C K Stead professionally. Publications include 'Smith's Dream' (1971), 'All Visitors Ashore' (1984), and 'Mansfield: A Novel' (2004). Awarded CBE in 1985 and ONZ in 2007. Named New Zealand's Poet Laureate 2015-2017.
