Sargeson letters to Plomer, June 1970 to Sept 1973, 20 letters; and 3. Copies of Sargeson's letters to Charles Erdmann and Sir Rupert Hart-Davies with replies, covering period Oct 1973 to Feb. 1974, 8 letters. Although the two never met, Sargeson and the English writer, Plomer, corresponded until the latter's death in Sep 1973. Description: Letters were all sent from Takapuna, and are dated 4 Feb 1973, 10 Sep 1973, 7, 14 and 20 Oct 1973, 11 Nov 1973, 23 Feb 1974, 5 May 1974 and 5 Apr 1976. They contain mss annotations by Sargeson and Roddick and discuss publishing difficulties, renumeration, the poetry of Karl Wolfskehl, the death of William Plomer, Sargeson's autobiography, his relations with the Listener, his Brasch letters, his works, `Somerset village', `Once is enough' and `More than enough', and his health. Source of title - Supplied title Writer and editor of New Zealand literary works. Roddick corresponded with Sargeson during the early 1970s mainly as editor of the national radio YC Poetry programme, but also on literary matters and because he was gathering together the letters of Charles Brasch.
