New Zealand Broadcasting Service

NZBS

Came into being with the passing of the Broadcasting Act on 1 July 1936. Responsibility for the control of the National Broadcasting Service (as it was first termed) was placed in the hands of a Minister of the Crown who was charged with the administration of the Act. All the rights, property, liabilities, and engagements of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board were transferred to the Crown , and for the next 25 years (till 1962) broadcasting was administered as a government department.
