Description: Collection of political cartoons published in The Southern Cross which mainly relate to Sidney Holland and his conservative policies, as well as the New Zealand forces that were sent to Japan after its deafeat in World War II. Also contains cartoons that are specific to the Wellington region with particular reference to mayor William Appleton and the prison on Mt Crawford. International issues are also adressed; especially those relating to Britain's class sysyem and the social problems that the nation faced in the aftermath of World War II. Quantity: 11.

Description: Photographic portrait of New Zealand journalist, food writer and crime novelist Elizabeth Messenger. Taken by photographer Tunbridge, in London, 1929 to circa early 1930s. Possibly taken on occasion of her debutante presentation at the Royal Court. She is earing a feather headdress with veil and holds a feather fan. Source of title - title supplied by Library Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s). Physical Description: Photographic print Provenance: Donated by Jim Esson, Palmerston North, 2014. Donor is nephew of Elizabeth Messenger. The photograph was part of a collection of family photographs that had belonged to the donor's father.
