Description: Maker(s) not identified. Includes: Portuguese coin of 1870; large silver/nickel coin of 1914 portraying left profile of Yuan Shi Kai with moustache; small bronze coin, inscribed "The Republic of China - Ten Cash" and showing the 5-colour flag - therefore dated between 1912 and ca 1930s; one large and one small silver/nickel coin featuring the portrait of Chiang Kai Shek, dated 1933 and 1936; and, one small silver/nickel coin inscribed Hu-Peh (ie Hubei) Province, 1 Mace and 4.4 Candareens. Possibly related to Frederick Bird of the China Inland Mission, whose visiting card was amongst the papers. Photocopy held with coins. Description: One four-penny coin, and three 1 1/2 penny coins, all minted in 1843. All show a profile head of Queen Victoria on the obverse. The reverse of the four-penny coin shows Britannia. The reverse of the 1 1/2 penny coin shows a wreath of oak leaves. Three of the 1 1/2 penny coins have had a hole drilled through them, perhaps to string on to a necklace or bracelet.
