Description: Photographs on album pages: photograph of Mount Peel Station, its interior and grounds including Mr Acland in his study, his daughters and their friends identified by inititals, including one of L D Acland and B B Acland, the latter knitting a sock, and the Church of the Holy Innocence viewed across a field of hay stacks with the forest planted by Acland behind it; more of the same women boating and picnicking, including a view of a gorge taken by Harriet Acland, a church interior and Bishop Harper playing cricket with a young boy; Ilam homestead covered in clematis with balconies and verandahs and extensive grounds next to the Avon River, and the Watts Russell family group at Pareora August 1894 with their dog and saddled horses in the background; the West Coast Times printing office with the men outside it, C G Tripp and family and a Centerbury view; and two views of Tripp's homestead at Orari. Photographs mounted on card: a studio portrait of Dr Shortland; John Charles Watts Russell taken by the London Stereoscopic Company; Rev R H Codrington's garden in Norfolk Island while a missionary in the South Pacific with eight local men, either Solomon Islanders and New Hebrideans; five interior views of a well-furnished house (possibly Wildwood, Christchurch) with heavy wooden furniture and fireplaces, gas lamps, drapery, paintings (including a copy of The Order of Release by Millais) etc.; the officers of HMS Invincible on the deck of their ship next to the lifeboats; a view looking down a street of two boats in "the bay of Taranaki" (probably near New Plymouth) one named SS Taupo ca 1860s; and a view over buildings near the shore in New Plymouth ca 1860s. Description: Album of photographs chiefly taken in the South Island, except for one view of `Woodcroft', the home of Dr John Kinder in Arney Road, Remuera from about 1880 until his death in 1903. Many of the South Island views are related to early surveyors William Duncan Ross McCurdie and his wife Olga McCurdie, and Ernest Herbert Wilmot, who were surveying land near Tahakopa, Tautuku, McLennan Valley and the Catlins. Several show the homes of early settlers in the Tahakopa Valley. Of particular interest are a view of women voting at their first election at Tahakopa (28.11.1893); one of an early settler's first home at Tahakopa; the first boat sailing up to Mr McCurdie's camp; and a group of horsemen on a beach, parading before going to war (1914). Description: Album of newspaper and magazine cuttings, black and white photographs, and prints of colour illustrations. Mostly connected with New Zealand native trees, and the timber industry. There are pages dealing with different native trees, and then with the various processes involved in felling the trees; transportation, including horse-drawn, logging railways, and water-born timber using dams; and timber mills. On page [7] of this album there are three personal photographs taken by John Logan Campbell from his home in Parnell, used as Christmas cards in 1900 and 1901; on page [27] is a print of a photograph originally taken by Albert Percy Godber, showing a poster in Maori warning against carelessness in lighting fires in the bush (see full information about the original, in the record at APG-1454-1/4-G).
