Description: Album of tramps, camps, and other boy scouting activities, chiefly photographed by Gerald Rainsford Craddock, who was an active scout member and later scout master during the 1930s at Otorohanga. Maori legends and hand-drawn maps accompany the photographs, bringing New Zealand geography and history alive to the young scouts. Outings include following Te Kooti's trail, searching for caves where moa bones have been found, and climbing to various trig stations in the Waikato area. Description: Album created by George Rainsford Craddock as a record of scouting trips in the King Country and Waikato, which followed ancient Maori trails, and historic quests. Maori legends and history in the form of newspaper cuttings attached to the album pages, which Gerald Craddock wrote himself, are interspersed with quotations from famous writers, and with photographs of the boys in the various areas. Some of the boys are identified, but only with Christian names Inserted in the front of the album is a slip dated October 1941 which mentions three of the boys (again only with Christian names) from his scout group who were killed in the second World War. Joe (an airgunner) came down 200 miles from Malta, in the sea in 1941; Basil (pilot) died when his plane crashed at Lossiemouth, Scotland in 1941; and John was brought down by a sniper's bullet in Iraq just before war broke out. Description: Album of photographs interpersed with coloured, and black & white postcards, newspaper cuttings and other ephemera. The photographs relate to an area shown in many of Gerald Rainsford Craddock's albums at Tauraroa; to outings by boy scouts; and to various sites in Egypt and the Far East during World War II. These include an image of a bridge of boats at Baghdad, and photographs taken on an air armada from Egypt to the Far East in January 1942. A few coloured photographs are taken at the Blue Baths in Rotorua in 1965. The postcards are taken by various photographers including Muir and Mooodie (Dunedin, New Zealand), David James Aldersley (Wellington), and P W Fallaise (Sydney). Description: Log book kept by Brian Collins of Heathcote, Christchurch, while completing his First Class Journey made on 9-10 March 1960 as a member of the Heathcote scout troop. Contains descriptive notes of the tasks; and a hand-drawn map of Lyttelton Harbour showing the route taken. Pasted into the log book are instructions for the activity, sealed orders, camp permit, and four black and white photographs. The photographs show camp sites, seagulls on a beach, a portrait Collins, and a scout at Camp Bay (possibly Malcolm Watkins who accompanied Collins on the First Class Journey). Description: Colourful poster has a perpetual calendar in the centre, and is surrounded by advertisements for local businesses of Pukekohe, Papatoetoe, Manurewa, Otahuhu and Papakura. Above the calendar panel is a circular head and shoulders portrait of a clean-shaven Maori chief with facial moko; he is flanked by illustrations of the Scottish thistle and the English rose. Immediately above the calendar is a line of three-leafed clovers, and other illustrations included a boy and girl scout, and two illustrations of a taiaha and long-handled tewhatewha together.
