Newspaper Publishers' Association of New Zealand : Records

Date: [ca. 1870-1955]

By: Newspaper Publishers' Association of New Zealand; New Zealand Press Association

Reference: MS-Group-1409

Description: Includes, the records of the Newspaper Publishers' Association of New Zealand Incorporated (NPA) and the New Zealand Press Association (NZPA). The majority of the material is from the NZPA and includes minutes, correspondence and industrial negotiation papers relating to the Associations' role. The material relating to the NPA includes, correspondence and bulletins. The Newspaper Publishers' Association of New Zealand (NPA) began in the late 19th Century. Until recent industrial relation legislation its main role was as a industrial organisation for employers. Its current role has become more to do with advice and lobbying on matters such as press freedom, privacy; and on organising conferences. The NPA is the umbrella organisation for commonly owned newspaper industry service providers, including the National Advertising Bureau, New Zealand Press Association, New Zealand Press Association Content Services and the Print Media Copyright Agency. The New Zealand Press Association (NZPA) was set up in the 1870s under other names as shared resource owned by the papers. The NZPA operates a service disseminating national and international news to the country's daily and Sunday newspapers. It has the same Board of Directors as the NPA, and a shared CEO. But records are evidently still separate. Quantity: 14 box(es). 3.10 Linear Metres.
