Green rubber stamp "Tin Can Island", one purple circular "Tin Can Mail"; one purple "Dispatched by Tin Can Mail, Niuafoou, Aug 1, 1935, Tonga; postage stamp for Tonga - 2 1/2d. Also rubber stamp which states: "This letter, enclosed in a water-tight tin was put into the sea from the cruise steamer "Monowai" off Niuafoou or "Tin-Can Island" in the Tongan Group - Lat. 15.33' South, Long. 175.39' West, on the 17th July, 1935. / A. Description: Ah ornate black and white poster with space for text in the lower centre. The main illustration shows the Progress Buildings, retail building managed by Clark & Matheson, with signs for printing and lithographic services, account book manufacture, "everything in paper", the "House for envelopes". Description: Photographs chiefly relating to artist Gordon Crook, particularly images of him, his home, studio, flowers in his garden, and tapestry work, taken from circa 1990 to circa 2003. (Note however that four art works have creation dates of 1955, 1966/67, about 1979 and 1992). Some have notes written by Crook on the backs. Eight relate particularly to the Victorian Tapestry Workshop in Melbourne, Australia. Some photographs taken by Crook, other photographers unidentified. Comprises: Eight relating to Derum and the Victorian Tapestry Workshops (VTW) in Melbourne, Australia, taken 1993 and circa 1993. Images show a tapestry of a montage with Derum, weaver Cheryl Thornton, and Joy Smith. Further images show (students?) working at the VTW including [Grazyua Bleya ?] weaving 'Maritimes'. Six images of Crook and others at the City Art Gallery in Wellington, in Dec 1993, during the retrospective exhibition of Crook's works, curated by Derum. Images include Edith Ryan, 'Eddie', and Derum. 23 are taken of and around Crook's house at 119 Aro Street, Wellington, including his studio which was under renovation. Also many of flowers inside and in his garden. Two probably taken inside the Begonia House, Botanical Gardens, Wellington. Five showing him and/or others. Only identified person is Edith Ryan at the Arts Council office. Six comprising buildings, sculpture, the pine tree at One Tree Hill, Auckland. 15 of art works (all? by Crook), particularly tapestries, dated 1955, 1966/67, about 1979 and 1992. Description: The two pencil sketches are likely to be profile self-portraits of McFarlane. In the top sketch he sits in the river washing his own clothes. Below is a head and shoulder profile portrait of him in a pith smoking a pipe like me now? Haven't seen my face for months so excuse flattery". At top right is a ticket (probably for a bus) in Bombay, listing 278 stops, including: Sassoon Dock, Grant's Building, Museum East, Ballard Pier, Bori Bunder, Dhobi Talao, Prince's Dock, Girgaum P Ch, Pydhonie, Nall Bazar, Charni Rd Jn, Grant Rad, Foras rd, Tardeo, Mazacon. Description: Comprises material relating to the first air drop to Pitcairn Island in 1983 which included commemorative philatic covers produced by the Pitcairn Administration and seven covers produced by former Education Officer Education Murray Howse. Contains inward and outward correspondence, newspaper cuttings and copies of the serial `Pitcairn Miscellany' dated 1985. Also includes note written by vendor David Smitham in March 2014 concerning the history of the 1983 air drop and the production of philatic covers (envelopes) to commemorate this event. On 21 February 1983 the Royal New Zealand Air Force made the first air drop over Pitcairn Island. The first drop consisted of mail, a toy bulldozer and peaches.
