The identity of R A C is not known. A. W. Hands was in Sri Lanka as a young man. He arrived in New Zealand in 1880. The subjects are all unidentified, except for a portrait of Reginald 'Reg' William Barker, a pilot for the RNZAF, who is photographed sitting in the cockpit of a fighter airplane.
