Matangirei (Whenuakura, N.Z)

The name of a carved meeting-house at Whenuakura Marae at Whenuakura, on State Highway 3, east of Patea, Taranaki. Opened in May 1933. Said to be given the same name as the earlier house of Turi at Rangitawhi Pā, Patea. Associated with Ngati Ruanui. Also written as Matangi-rei.
