Description: A bronze medallion called the ANZAC Commemorative Medallion (in Australia) or the Gallipoli Medallion (in New Zealand). The obverse shows Private John Simpson Kirkpatrick, 1893-1915, better known as 'Simpson' or 'the man with the donkey', helping a wounded soldier who is seated on the back of a donkey. (When Simpson was killed in 1915, the task of evacuating wounded by donkey was continued by a New Zealander, Pte. R.A. Henderson.) Beneath is a wreath of gum leaves. The reverse shows a map of Australia and New Zealand with the five stars of the Southern Cross constellation, and a fern wreath below. The medallion (not intended to be worn) is surmounted by St Edward's crown. The medallion is housed in a black leather box lined with purple satin and velvet. It is accompanied by a flier addressed to the recipient A C Maxwell, expressing the New Zealand government's appreciation of loyal service rendered in the Dardanelles Campaign of 1915. The flier also bears the New Zealand coat of arms. The Australian citation has a different text Another Gallipoli Medallion, awarded to Sidney Clement (1892-1915), is housed at Curios-029-046; attributed to 'artist unknown' but can be reasonably assumed that the artist is also Raymond Ewers The bronze medallion was instituted in 1967 for award to Australian and New Zealand personnel who participated in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. Allan Maxwell survived the War and lived until 1965 Quantity: 1 medal. Description: Maker(s) not identified. Contains silver rose bowl with black stand, with a netting to hold blooms. The black base has a plaque inscribed "presented to Mrs. Basham by St Mary's Church members, Waipukaurau July 1924". The cup was likely pesented to Mrs Maud Basham when she left Waipukurau after six years, to go to Ngatea. She had taught music and choir, and organised entertainment groups in Waipukurau. Maurice Rooklyn the magician was in Japan in 1947, and may have been a member of the J Force. Charles Cabot the stage door manager at the Opera House, was a friend of Rooklyn. Description: Inside spread reproduces the poem by Drummer T Black of the 10th Manchester Regiment, "in honour of 'Our New Zealand boys' at the front who created such an intense feeling of enthusiasm and friendship with their splendid patriotism, amongst the Lancashire and other British regiments who met them in Egypt, as to inspire these lines." Front cover shows a New Zealand soldier with a bayonet rifle over his left shoulder, with the Union Jack flag and the Giza pyramids in the background. Back page reads: "This poem, which should be read and cherished by every New Zealander (especially when they know the conditions under which it has been written) is presented to the public of New Zealand by The Wellington Performing Musicians' Union, to assiste in augmenting the Funds for the Wounded Soldiers and Sailors". Description: Shows portrait photographs of the Rev Richard Davis, and his sons-in-law the Rev Joseph Matthews and Mr William Gilbert Puckey. There are also smaller named photographs of the descendants of Rev Joseph and Mrs Matthews, and Mr & Mrs Puckey. There is a photograph at top centre of the historic mission station at Kaitaia, and at lower centre a photograph of the interior of the old church at Kaitaia with the Rev Joseph Matthews at the altar. Mr Joseph Matthews is described as the first white man to arrive in Kaitaia (November 1832), and for 60 years its pastor. Mr Puckey was coadjutor of the Rev Joseph Matthews. Description: Artist not identified, made circa 1930s. Wooden box with sliding lid and attached plaque, inscribed: "Presented to Rev C G Scrimgeour in appreciation of practical interest in "Takahe", J A Thomson, supervisor". The lid bears a raised relief of a shield with a takahe on it. Accompanied by a letter from the donor Gary Scrimgeour explaining the likely context surrounding the presentation of this box to his father, Colin Scrimgeour. "Takahe" is likely to have been a project of the Methodist Church (where J A Thomson was probably a supervisor), concerning Māori land issues in Northland or Auckland. 'J A Thomson' possibly identifed as John Anderson Thomson who worked at the Sign of the Takahe and later for 3YA; sports announcer known as 'the Toff' and presented talks on heraldry. Description: A set of ten postcards issued to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the unification of Italy (1861-1911). The cards can be laid out, so that the combined picture is of a symbolic classical female figure with a sword and wreath, surrounded by portraits of important Italian statesmen and rulers, and six historic scenes. Portraits include: Vittorio Emanuele III, S M La Regina Elena, Vittorio Emanuele II, Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, Generale G Garibaldi, Giuseppe Mazzini.
