Description: The bulk of the papers comprise a series of correspondence and administrative papers, called the `Consulate - general' files. These make up series 1, and comprise the main working papers of Szentirmay's activities as Honorary Consul. Series 2 is a smaller series, comprising correspondence and papers covering his dealings with the Hungarian Embassey in Canberra. The remaining series comprises papers, broadly described as public relations material. This comprises papers relating to the magazine 'Magyar Szo', printouts of the Access Radio Hungarian programme, and papers relating to the organisation of Hungarian festivals in 1994 and 1996. Arrangement: Series 1 and 2 have been kept in the chronological order received. Each document has a yearly running number, which refers back to an index held by the Honorary Consul. Paul Szentirmay immigrated to New Zealand from Hungary in 1957. He was a librarian who held a number of senior positions, including Deputy Librarian for the National Library of New Zealand.
