Description: Album of photographs created for presentation to the second Marquis (or Marquess) of Normanby, George Augustus Constantine Phipps, Governor of New Zealand 1874-1879. Compiled and taken by photographer William Brickell Gibbs, Wellington, between circa 1878 to 1880. Pages are inscribed with location details, reference numbers and stamp of the General Assembly Library, the former holders of the album. - Contains views of Wellington; showing the old Government Buildings on Lambton Quay, Parliament House, Government House and surrounding homes, the Town Hall, the Colonial Museum and the house of James Hector on Museum Street. Views also show hansom cabs, horse and carts, and sailing ships in Wellington Harbour. -Contains views taken in Golden Bay and Nelson Region; showing Takaka River, a man, woman and little girl beside The Devils Boot rock formations at Collingwood, and Pah Point rocks on Totaranui beach.
