Description: Shows a view looking out from the interior of a permanent sleeping shed, with the artist's legs and those of Samuel Deigton stretched out in the foreground. There is a knapsack and a kete in the left foreground, and a figure in a feather cloak sits outside, just beyound a support pole of the shelter. A campfire is burning at the left, with a billy or saucepan over it, and a section of river, with cliffs on the far side is visible beyond. Description: Photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1905 and 1907, covering a variety of topics. They include family photographs, both individual and group portraits, and Wellington houses (eg `Railway Whare', the house Godber and his family lived in, in Bay Street, Petone). One scene shows Godber's parents, Mary Ann and Charles Godber, with a large group of family members, including Albert Percy Godber, his wife Laura, and two children, Phyllis and William (p.21). On p. 13, Godber's wife Laura and two children are seen with an elderly couple, probably Laura's parents Charles Albert and Magdelina Clara Zinckgraf. Numbers of images show scenes associated with New Zealand Railways, including the Mataroa Railway Tunnel under construction, specific locomotives, signal stations, the railway station at Petone, and scenes at the Petone Railway Workshops. At the beginning of the album, several images show Godber and a team from the Petone Fire Brigade with medals they have won at fire-fighting practice competitions. A pocket at the front of the album holds two photographs, on of a new cutting on the road near Lowry Bay, and one of the `model of `D' class locomotive used in the Petone Peace Demonstration Procession' following the Boer War in 1902, signed `With A.P. Description: Two sheets of the map of the central route railway, North Island main trunk railway, Turangarere section, each covering up to one mile distance along the Hautapu River. Milage is running from Turangarere towards Taihape. Both sheets show tracks, sheet 2 shows Roapoama's house opposite 70 chains and the track from Moawhango and Marton, while sheet 3 shows a U-turn bend in the track and good sites for platelayer's cottages. The lower diagram in each map is a cross section of the same distance, measuring heights, formation levels, distances and gradients. Maps signed by R W Holmes, 26/11/[18]89. 'Copy of PWD 16466'. Description: Double-page spread image shows at far left Herekiekie's waata (storehouse), and other buildings nearby. Two horses are in the centre foreground, and a few scattered figures. At the right is the waterfall at Turangerere on the Hautapu River, with the word "Tertiaries" written beside them. A fenced square enclosure is visible on the bank further up stream. Crawford writes: "At 2.20 pm, we reached the pretty village of Turangerere, the principal residence of the late chief Herekiekie, situated on the right bank of the Hautapu. Here there is a celebrated waata or storehouse, very large and highly ornamented with carvings. Survey camps, rivers, waterfalls, family, and friends

Description: Many of the photographs were taken when H E Girdlestone was working as one of a survey team in the Taihape area. Views of the survey camps variously descibed as near Taihape, on the Hautapu River, as Oroua Bridge, Mataroa Township, Raketapauma, and Rangiwaea Block. He has included scenic views of native forest from some of these and other locations. Most notably he has taken photographs of many waterfalls on the rivers and streams in the area. Many of these are on the Turakina river. One called Rereaupiko Waterfall is formed where the Mangoiwa Stream falls into the Hautapu River. There are also views of the Whanganui River and one of a load of passengers on the "Wairere," a Whanganui River boat. Other scenic views have been taken in the Trentham area, Upper Hutt. These include a stream and native forest, the Hutt River, and cattle in pasture. Other locations around the Hutt Valley and Wellington are a bridge over a stream in the Wainuiomata water reserve, Young's Gardens Karori Wellington, and Views of the South coast looking towards and from Sinclair Head. There are local volunteer military units who participated in a marching competition on the 5th of October 1901. Those named are the "Highlanders", "Kelburns," "College Old Boys," "Civil Service," and "Post and Telegraph." Finally there are many images of family, friends and collegues. These include a group of adults and children at a house in Featherston and shows people playing croquet, members of a survey team in a tent, Girdlestone and a fellow worker engaged in chopping down a large forest tree, groups of young women and men in their sunday best, a group of men in fancy dress playing instruments, the children and teacher of Mataroa School photographed outside what is probably the school room in March 1901, and people in kayaks and canoes on the River Avon Christchurch.
