The survey team's tramp into the mountains followed the Wharepapa River north west of the station and then up the Papatahi stream to the Papatahi trig. Here they set up camp which is depicted under snow. They then moved south to the trig on Mount Matthews where they again set up camp. There are images of tents, men, native forest, Mt Matthews, the trig, dogs, the surrounding ranges, and views of Palliser Bay. The party descended with their equipment via Matthews Stream to Eglington's Whare at Mukamuka. The second group is a record of a family holiday at Tokaanu and Lake Taupo.
