Description: Research papers including correspondence, drafts, research notes, photographs and some clippings based around Cowan's book 'Maori folk tales of the Port Hills' published in 1923. They were in an envelope which was annotated with 'Port Hills. Clippings from book on Canterbury, Tikao etc'. Includes correspondence from William A Taylor from 1935 about the Maori history of Canterbury and Otago, also a letter from H Fildes entitled 'Cannibal Gorge' relating to the Ngai Tahu history from the West Coast. There is also a handwritten account [in an unknown hand] about Hinepoupou from Rangitoto Island [D'Urville Island], and a handwritten list of Maori place names from Banks Peninsula, written by Ngai Tahu leader Hone Taare Tikao in 1915. Other research notes and drafts including one about Pelorus Jack, the famous dolphin.
