Description: Above, a view from the end of the wharf at the foot of Queen Street, looking towards the waterfront buildings and up Queen Street, with Partington's windmill on the skyline. A line of barrels along the wharf and two containers of goods, a man wheeling a wheelbarrow, another wheeling a barrow, two soldiers, other groups of citizens, Maori canoes and a rowboat drawn up at the water's edge on the left and groups of Maori sitting. The Wesleyan (Methodist) Chapel is on the left, above the first row of buildings. Below, a view of the old stone cottage at Panmure, built in 1848 for Colour-Sergeant Michael Ford of the New Zealand Fencibles, which was moved to the Howick Historical Village in 1998 Based on a lithograph (originally an oil painting, which is held in the Mitchell Library, Sydney) by Patrick Joseph Hogan, done in 1852. Description: A large steel-framed bridge over a river, with a hill opposite with several houses. A group of mainly women, are standing on the river bank in the foreground. Engraver unknown. A description of this bridge 576 ft long and 21 ft wide on the Tamaki River which is navigable by vessels of considerable size' is printed in the Illustrated London News, 12 October 1867 - 'Swing bridge gives clear opening of 40 ft., made with abutment stones imported from Melbourne and ironwork from Sydney. Designed by W Weaver, engineer-in-chief of Auckland Province; contractors McNeil and Wilson. Cost £17,000. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides includes a view of cows in trial harnesses at the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre; the Anchor Butter factory at Te Awamutu (Te Awamutu Dairy Factory); the main street in Te Awamutu and the Riverina Hotel; the Waikato River from various angles; the Sand, Shingle, Metal works beside the Waikato River; two views of audience and participants at the Ngaruawahia Regatta; Queen Street in Auckland and views in the area including Auckland Harbour, Rangitoto, Devonport area, Panmure and Mount Wellington, and the crater on Mount Eden. Slides on this sheet are numbered 408-432 with gaps for those removed for lectures on New Zealand. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 414, 420, 426-427) showing Main Street in Te Awamutu; looking down the Waikato River with the road bridge; Queen Street, Auckland and view of Rangitoto and Auckland Harbour. These were taken as part of a representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. The lecture series are filed in later sequences. Description: Map of Mt. Wellington borough boundary is drawn on a base map of five sections glued together with slight innacuracies at the joins. The base map is a cadastral map of the Mt. Wellington area and adjoining boroughs. The Mt. Wellington boundary is hilighted, the acreage is written prominently and adjoining boroughs of Otahuhu, One Tree Hill, Ellerslie and the City of Auckland are named. Panmure township road district is outlined and named, and also has a label glued adjacent to the area to identify it. A note glued to the bottom left corner states "Mt. Wellington Borough was constituted ... Gaz 1952 p.713" and "Alteration ... Gaz 1953 p.(8)1142". A note stating the scale is glued to the bottom right. Subtitle supplied by cataloguer.
