The trip goes from the Buller River; Lake Kaniere; views of the Rimu Dredge; near Jacksons; Otira Station; Otira Gorge; Springfield after a snow fall; Lyttelton Harbour; a visit to the remains of the old homestead at Double Corner, Waipara, with historic white gums; and lastly views from the Summit Road, Akaroa Peninsula. North Island scenes include a number of tourist views of Maori, showing carved meeting houses; a group performing a haka; two women demonstrating the hongi; a young woman wearing a feather cloak, hei tiki and huia feathers, and holding a mere; a group of young boys in a haka pose; a woman smoking a pipe; a group of children bathing in a hot pool at Ohinemutu; and Mr. Nelson's carved house at Whakarewarewa. Other North Island scenes show Mount Taranaki, the Auckland wharves, Lake Waikaremoana, and a man fishing at the Ohau Channel, Rotorua. Description: Photographs of the West Coast taken by Hokitika photographer Ben Thiem. Images no. 11-16 have the photographer's official stamp on the back which reads "Ben Thiem, photographer, Hokitika. This photograph must not be copied without the permission of Ben Thiem, photographer, Hokitika". These are stamped with the photographer's own numbers: F1, F26, F29, F31 and F32. The first two images show sunset over water, with lights in the windows of a train in the middle distance. Image no. 3 shows a waterfall at Mitchells, near "Lake Moana" (Lake Brunner); image no. 4 shows houses at Punakaiki. Lake Kanieri (Kaniere) is seen in images 5-10, including no. 10 which shows the road to Lake Kanieri under snow on July 20th, 1931.
