Description: Drawing of the spermophila mexicana perched on a branch. The genus spermophila is now known as sporophila (seedeaters). The plumage on the back is brown and cinnamon coloured on the breast, underparts and cheeks. The crown is speckled. The wings are dark brown and have two cinnamon coloured stripes, and the feathers appear to be edged in a lighter colour of brown. The beak is short and thick. Description: Drawing of a bird perched on a branch. The plumage is two shades of grey, black and white. The crown is grey and streaked; the back, wings and tail are grey. The throat is black and there is a mask-like black patch under the eye, surrounded by white. The breast and underparts are white streaked with black along the wing border. The wings have a white stripe with a dark grey stripe running through the middle, and are edged with a lighter grey. There is a small patch of yellow at the front of the eye.
