Description: Photograph album of views of Wellington, ranging from copies of early paintings from the 1840s, and early photographs up to the 1870s, to a series of postcards from the 1920s. Most of the early images have clear descriptions, giving year made, location, and in some cases further information about buildings that can be seen. For example, one view shows Kebble's house, now the site of the Grand Opera House. Views in the postcards are identified, but no dates are given. Description: Photographs relating to Herbert Spackman and his family and relatives, chiefly taken by him. Places include views of Wellington and bays, Eketahuna and the Wanganui district. Very few of the people shown are fully identified but are likely to be Harry Spackman’s: mother (Eliza Spackman, nee Hawkings), father (Henry Spackman), brother, mother-in-law (Mrs Coxall, mother of Harry’s first wife Amy), and father-in-law (Mr Parnell, father of Fanny Parnell, Harry's second wife). Several houses are shown, including: ‘Rangiuru’, located at 63 Hutt Road, Petone, Wellington; House of Eketahuna farmer David S Lowe; House of David S Lowe’s brother Henry (‘Harry’) Goold Spackman in Wanganui, both interior and exterior, ‘Ben Venuto’ situated at 59 Rintoul Street and house of Henry (‘Harry’) Goold Spackman in Wellington, both interior and exterior views. Herbert Spackman's nephew Roy Spackman (Clement Roy) attended Wanganui Collegiate School, and there are several views of the chapel (interior and exterior) and the music room. Description: All images show people during a major demonstration against the Springbok Tour in the Newtown area, Wellington.
